The Business Institute was established in 1991 to meet the growing needs of our region’s businesses. Since then, the Business Institute has coordinated over 10,000 classes and trained thousands of employees.

Small, family-owned business benefits from Management Training

During a five-week period earlier this spring, business members from Galena and the surrounding area attended various stages of a Management Seminar series presented by Highland’s Business Institute through the Galena Area Chamber of Commerce.

According to one student, Elsa Einert of the family-operated Country Cast Products, the program greatly improved her ability to communicate, delegate and relate to employees and customers in her job as office manager.

“I felt that each session in the series provided me with improved customer and employee relation skills. So often we think others should see only our point of view, because of this series I have been better able to collaborate with others and convey each person’s point of view in the course of a conversation. It feels as if our whole company enrolled in the series.”

The Business Institute is ready to help your business, just as it helped the supervisors at Country Cast Products. We offer a complete line of programs focused on the needs of the business community. Contact us to learn how Highland Community College can help you and your employees be more competitive in today’s changing business world just as it helped the owners of County Care Products.

Testimony from a Jo Daviess Business CEO

Several months ago our company interviewed external and internal candidates for a management position within the plant.  After the interview process, each candidate was given a list of strengths and areas of improvement.  One of the internal candidates who was not awarded the management position needed to improve computer skills particularly spreadsheets.  The individual enrolled in the Business Institute Excel spreadsheet classes offered at the Highland Community College facility in Elizabeth.  Since then a select position has been developed and another interview process of internal candidates has been completed.  The same individual who successfully completed the Excel spreadsheet classes was selected for the position.  The training received at the HCC facility in Elizabeth was a definite factor in the selection process.  Classes being offered in proximity to our company and at times that are convenient for individuals who have full time jobs are critical to the success of individual employees and the company as a whole.
